About us

What does the committee do?

The NSW Ministerial Advisory Committee on Ageing (MACA) advises the Minister for Ageing, the Hon. Paul Lych  MP on matters affecting the needs, interests and wellbeing of older people in NSW, and on the impact of the ageing of the population.

The committee currently has 10 members, appointed as individuals, on the basis of their expertise and experience. The committee meets four times a year in Sydney.

For more information about the committee you can view a brochure in English, or six community languages.

Policy advice and administrative support are provided by Secretariat staff based in the Office for Ageing, NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care.

Our vision

A fair go, a fair share, a fair say, for older people in NSW.

Our role

The NSW Ministerial Advisory Committee on Ageing advises the NSW Government on issues affecting older people in NSW.

We do this by:

  • Gathering and exchanging information, by consulting and listening to older people and by fostering debate about issues affecting older people and options for change
  • Monitoring policies, programs and changes that affect older people
  • Providing options and recommendations to inform and assist Government policy.

Our principles

We believe that older people have the right to:

  • Participate in all aspects of community life
  • Have their views recognised and valued in Government decision making
  • Respect for the diversity of their experiences, views, living circumstances and cultural backgrounds
  • Equitable access to services, facilities and programs
  • Dignity, independence and choice.
